How long does a spray tan remain visible?

A spray tan typically stays beautiful for 5 to 10 days, depending on your skin type, aftercare, and daily routines. The color fades gradually as the top layer of skin cells renews.

Preparation for the perfect spray tan

  1. Exfoliate your skin (24 hours in advance). Remove dead skin cells with a mild scrub or exfoliating glove. This ensures an even complexion and prevents spots.
  2. Shave or wax your skin. Do this at least 24 hours before your appointment. This prevents skin irritation and ensures the spray tan is absorbed evenly.
  3. Don’t wear body lotion, deodorant, or perfume on the day itself. These products can act as a barrier, preventing the spray tan from adhering properly.
  4. Wear loose, dark clothing. After the treatment, some excess color may rub off. Tight clothing can also cause streaks.
  5. Avoid makeup during the treatment. Ensure your skin is clean and dry so that the product is evenly distributed.

Aftercare for a Long-lasting and Even Spray Tan

  1. Allow the spray tan to absorb well. Wait at least 8 to 12 hours before showering or swimming. This gives the color time to fully develop.
  2. First shower: lukewarm water, no soap. Rinse your skin with lukewarm water, without soap or scrubs. It’s normal for some excess color to rinse off—this is just the bronzer, not the final complexion.
  3. Pat your skin dry, don’t rub. Use a soft towel and pat your skin dry to keep the color beautifully even.
  4. Hydrate daily! Well-hydrated skin retains the tan longer. Use an oil-free moisturizer to slow fading.
  5. Avoid long, hot showers and baths. Prolonged exposure to hot water accelerates skin peeling and thus the fading of your tan.
  6. No aggressive scrubs or exfoliants. Avoid scrub gloves, exfoliating shower gels, and products containing glycolic acid or salicylic acid.
  7. Swimming and exercising: in moderation. Chlorinated water and excessive sweating can cause the color to fade faster. Rinse your skin immediately after swimming and hydrate well.
  8. Sun protection remains important. A spray tan doesn’t contain SPF, so always apply sunscreen when exposed to the sun.
